Conor McGregor set to climb Forbes rich list
CONOR McGREGOR is set to overtake Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of the Forbes highest-earner’s list after his big payday against Floyd Mayweather.
The Irishman is on course to pocket $125 million from his megafight defeat to Mayweather on Sunday morning.
And he could leapfrog Real Madrid ace Ronaldo at the top of the tree when it comes to sport’s highest earners for the year.
The Portuguese, 32, took home $114m in 2016, but it is not yet known how much he will earn in 2017, given his commercial contracts.
McGregor, meanwhile, could earn even more this year if he gets another UFC bout after his scrap with Mayweather, despite not even being in the top 10 last year.
American Mayweather will drop off the list because of his retirement — but with his earnings from the Las Vegas bout, he would likely top the list.
Ronaldo was a key part of Los Blancos’ second consecutive Champions League final win as the Spanish side beat Juventus 4-1 in Cardiff.
And despite murmurs Ronaldo could leave the Bernabeu earlier this summer, he looks set to stay at the club.
There have been rumours he has demanded $1.13m-a-week (£700,000 GBP) to stay at the club, after he was overtaken by Neymar as the best-paid player in the world.
Ronaldo was not happy over the summer after being investigated by the Spanish tax man.
He was displeased with Real’s stance over the case, as the club distanced themselves from his troubles.
IT PAYS TO BE ON TEAM MAYWEATHER
Floyd Mayweather has already splashed out a chunk of his huge payday by taking nine close friends and family shoe shopping.
The retired American boxer is believed to have pocketed around a staggering $373 million in total after his 10-round bout with Conor McGregor.
That means that Mayweather, who hung up his gloves with a 50-0 unbeaten record, earned a remarkable $37m per round.
And the 40-year-old spent some of his money by taking his entourage to high brand fashion store Gucci and letting them pick and choose what they wanted.
Mayweather later took to Instagram to show off a huge receipt will would have undoubtedly cost him a fortune.
Alongside the image was the caption: “Took 9 of them shoe shopping today.”
Mayweather will never enter the boxing ring again as he ends his illustrious career as one of the world’s greatest.
And he believes McGregor should do the same following the Irishman’s defeat.
Mayweather believes a younger, hungrier boxer would waste no time in inflicting defeat on the UFC champ.
He told ESPN’s Bernardo Osuna: “Conor McGregor is a hell of a fighter and I want to see him continue to stay in the UFC and do what he do best.
“Because you must realise, that I’m 40-years-old and I’ve been off almost 800 days and he’s active. He’s actively fighting, actively training in a boxing gym and in the UFC gym.
“These other fighters, these young lions, they are throwing a lot more combinations than I’m throwing.
“I was just in the pocket, shooting one shot here and there, and breaking him down slowly.
“Whereas you got these young active guys who are throwing a lot of combinations and would get him out of there a lot earlier.”

Roberto Carlos Sentenced to Jail
Roberto Carlos Sentenced to 3 Months in Jail After Failing to Pay More Than £15,000 in Child Support
Roberto Carlos has been sentenced to three months in Brazilian jail after failing to pay more than £15,000 in child support.
The ex-Brazil and Real Madrid defender Carlos owes money to former partner Barbara Thurler, with whom he has two children.
The 44-year-old's case is being processed under summary secrecy in the family court of the Itaperuna Forum, with Brazilian media stating Carlos cited financial issues as the reason for the payment delays.
Carlos recently had his ninth child with current wife Mariana Lucon and judge Mayane de Castro said the family rejected a proposal from the former Inter Milan full-back to pay the sum in installments
Carlos' lawyer Fernando Pittner said the matter would be resolved without the legendary Brazilian serving time in prison, with the World Cup winner also recently being dragged into a doping investigation in Brazil.
A German broadcaster recently claimed Carlos took performance-enhancing drugs throughout his career, during which he won league titles in Brazil and Spain. Carlos has denied the allegations..

Is Barcelona fading slowly
Barcelona Transfer News LIVE updates: Messi and Iniesta could leave, Coutinho latest, Seri
BARCELONA transfer news is coming thick and fast as they aim to fill the void left by Neymar's departure to Paris Saint-Germain. Express Sport brings you the latest news from the Nou Camp as it happens.
Dembele deadline
Barcelona have seven days to sign Ousmane Dembele.
Barcelona want to sign Dembele in a deal worth around £110million but Borussia Dortmund are getting tired of their pursuit.
Bild claim the Bundesliga side have told Barca to make an offer before Sunday.
Dembele is currently on strike as he tries to force his move to the Nou Camp
Messi’s going nowhere - Fernandez
Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez has categorically ruled out the prospect of Lionel Messi leaving the club.
Manchester City have been linked with an audacious swoop for the Argentine sensation, with numerous reports claiming Pep Guardiola’s side will trigger his €300m release clause next year.
But Fernandez has rejected the claims.
“There is total agreement for Messi's renewal on both sides,” Fernandez told BeIn Sports.
We are waiting for the right time to sign it, there's nothing else to it. We already know how key Messi is not only for us but he's a very important player for all of football.”
Di Maria on the radar
Barcelona have turned their attention to Angel Di Maria after giving up on Philippe Coutinho.
Barcelona made three bids for Coutinho but set Liverpool a deadline of 7pm last night to accept an offer.
And they have now moved on to target former Real Madrid midfielder Di Maria, according to Guillem Balague.
Barca also remain interested in Ousmane Dembele, whose transfer could be completed in a matter of hours, and Nice midfielder Jean Seri.
Barcelona have been flushed with £198m from the sale of Neymar to PSG and they are desperately trying to get their team up to speed.
They hope to sign Dembele from Dortmund in a deal worth over £100m and are now exploring the possibility of signing Di Maria.
Seri agrees Barcelona contract
Jean Seri has been linked with a move to Barcelona throughout the summer.
And Get French football claims the Nice star has agreed a four-year deal at the Nou Camp.
However, Barcelona still need to negotiate a fee with the French club.
Coutinho deal off?
Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona could be off, according to Guillem Balague.
"We reported on Friday that Liverpool had rejected the third offer from Barcelona and an email was sent back [to Liverpool] from Barcelona saying, 'okay, you rejected that - if you don't accept it I must tell you that there is a deadline of today, Sunday - 7pm. Otherwise we withdraw the offer'," said Balague.
"I think Liverpool have got no intention of answering that email from Barcelona, which in theory means that's the end of that.
"That's the end of the story of Coutinho moving to Barcelona. You never know in football of course but if Barcelona are true to their word they will withdraw the offer tonight because Liverpool have got no intention of selling."
Iniesta admits he could quit Barcelona
Lionel Messi is not the only Barcelona player eying the exit door.
Andres Iniesta has confirmed he is considering leaving - for the first time since he joined.
"Right now, I have still not signed a new contract," he said.
"This is a scenario that, probably three years ago, I could never have imagined.
"Let's say that I am considering my future when I didn't do it before."
Lionel Messi could LEAVE Barcelona.
That's according to the Daily Record, who say the Argentina international is seriously considering calling time on his Nou Camp career.
Manchester City are determined to bring him to the Premier League (as I'm sure many teams would be).
But Messi, though torn, is likely to delay any immediate decision over his future until January at the earliest.
It has been a tricky summer so far and news today suggests there is no quick end to Ernesto Valverde's problems.
Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta could both be about to turn their back on the Catalan giants.
And there is also bad news regarding Jean Seri and Philippe Coutinho.
